Beschreibung: Der Fontodi Chianti Classico DOCG ist in der Nase fein nuanciert mit ausgeprägtem Veilchenduft. Am Gaumen zeigt der Fontodi Chianti Classico DOCG eine schöne, zarte Frucht mit Aromen von reifen Waldbeeren und ein wenig Rauch. Vollmundig, harmonisch und weich. Im Abgang ein Hauch von Schokolade sowie Süssholznoten. Die Maischegärung erfolgt während 14 Tagen bei kontrollierter Temperatur in Edelstahltanks. Danach gelangt der Wein für 12 Monate in Barriques aus Allier- oder Tronçais-Eiche.

Wine Advocate: „The organic Fontodi 2021 Chianti Classico shows a special density in this vintage. There are ripe fruit flavours with blackberries and plums. The fruit also has a rich fleshiness or thickness that contributes to the overall dimension and mouthfeel of this approachable wine. The bright acidity brings out all these elements even better.“

Vinous: „The 2021 Chianti Classico is a classic wine from the estate, made in the restrained style that has become the norm here of late. There is plenty of richness from Panzano, but more energy and less heaviness than was the norm a few years ago. Giovanni Manetti and his team have given the Chianti Classico a wonderful sophistication. Spices, flowers, mocha and blue fruits linger, all wrapped in extremely fine tannins.“

Wine Spectator: „This red wine combines the fruity and spicy side of Sangiovese and shows flavours of cherries and blackberries, accompanied by eucalyptus, juniper and wild rosemary. Lively and fluid, with tension in the complex, mineral aftertaste.“

Decanter: „Fontodi's 2021 is a symbol of the exceptional quality of Chianti Classico at the Annata level. It exudes the wild, rugged and dry Tuscan landscape against a backdrop of dark, multi-layered fruit. Hints of coffee and liquorice mingle with concentrated black cherry and blackberry. With ripe, gravelly tannins, this wine shows the power of the vintage without being overbearing, retaining its charismatic energy. It's worth waiting a few more months before drinking, but if cellared properly, it can easily impress for a decade.“

Jancis Robinson: „Deep carmine red colour. Tantalising nose of deep red fruits with hints of white pepper and leather. Juicy red fruits, with fine-grained, abundant tannins that unfold on the finish.“

Über das Weingut.

Der Name Fontodi kommt von dem lateinischen „Fons-odi” und geht zurück auf die Römer, die den Weinbau in dieser Region kultivierten. Seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts werden die Weine von Fontodi in die ganze Welt exportiert und seit 1968 ist das Weingut Fontodi im Besitz der Familie Manetti. Giovanni und Marco Manetti pflanzten im Tal „Conca d’Oro“, das wegen der Amphitheaterform die „Goldene Schale“ genannt wird, neben Sangiovese auch einen kleinen Anteil Cabernet Sauvignon an. Die Rebberge des „Conca d’Oro“ öffnen sich wie in einem Amphitheater nach Süden und sorgen somit für eine ideale Durchlüftung und Entwässerung. Der Kalkmergelboden (Galestro) ist durch seine Schieferanteile geprägt. Das im Tal herrschende, günstige Klima erlaubt eine Ausreifung des Sangiovese, was sich deutlich im Qualitätsniveau der Kellerei widerspiegelt.

Das Aushängeschild des Weinguts ist der „Flaccianello della Pieve“, ein Supertoskaner, aus 100% Sangiovese, der mit Jahrgang 2016 erstmals mit den 100 Parkerpunkten bewertet wurde. Aber auch der zweite Pemiumwein der Kellerei, der „Vigna del Sorbo“ ist ein erstklassiger Vertreter. Der Vigna del Sorbo wird aus Sangiovese und Cabernet Sauvignon gekeltert. Einstieg in die Fontodi-Welt ist der Chianti Classico. Ein Bilderbuch-Chianti mit einem hervorragenden Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis.
