Beschreibung: Der Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino DOCG präsentiert sich mit einem Bouquet von elegante Fruchtaromen gepaart mit aromatischen Kräutern sowie würzig balsamische Noten. Am Gaumen zeigt der Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino DOCG ein feinsandiges Tannin und ein starkes Säuregerüst. Diese Kombination sorgt für ein langes Leben und ein nie enden wollendes Trinkvergnügen.

Wine Advocate: „Although this wine was very shy initially, the Poggio di Sotto 2019 Brunello di Montalcino eventually hits all the high notes of Sangiovese. This is a wine of enormous inner tension, showing a punchy, lifted personality with aromas of cherry skin and blackberry. You get brandied cherry, strawberry glazed pie with the gelatin, underbrush, blue flower, forget-me-nots, balsam herb, mint and licorice. A few hours later, the wine had developed into a classic beauty with slender lines, firm structure and a sparkle of brilliant acidity. The oak is integrated to the point of invisibility, the tannins are elegant and fine and the acidity is that proverbial cherry on top. Ultimately, I liked this village bottling more than the 2018 Riserva..“

Falstaff Magazin: „Leuchtendes Rubingranat. In der Nase satte Kirschfrucht, ein Hauch Rosmarin, dazu feine Anklänge von Graphit und Blutorange. Im Ansatz mit toller Saftigkeit, viel rotbeerige Frucht, dazu schöne Salzigkeit, griffiges Tannin in vielen Schichten, baut sich schön auf, klassisch, wirkt noch sehr jung.“

Vinous: „Dusty roses, worn leather, dried strawberries and dry earth form a classic bouquet as the dynamic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. It is feminine, deep and structured, with ripe plums and black cherries supported by lively acidity. Purple flowers and hints of liquorice emerge towards the end. The 2019 leaves a salty minerality intermingled with fine-grained tannins and spice, while finishing with incredible length and yet so fresh. This wine is incredibly youthful and introverted today, but it has enormous potential. I expect the 2019 to gain weight and blossom over the next five to ten years. Glorious.“

Jancis Robinson: „Medium ruby red colour. Very restrained nose with just a hint of minerals. Elegant palate that is still firmly closed, yet supple and finely balanced with grainy but fine tannins. Very long, concentrated and exciting.“

Vinous: „The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino captivates, opening slowly with an exotic array of sweet spices, cedar shavings, ashen stone, mint and hints of sage. It’s luxuriously soft in texture, silky and refined, with depths of balsamic-tinged cherries accelerated by vibrant acidity and a hint of sour citrus that adds contrast. This finishes with impressive structure for the vintage, still lively yet classically dry, leaving nuances of tart berries offset by a burst of inner sweetness that punctuates quite well. This was a very difficult vintage with a massive amount of rain in August that made vineyard work very difficult, but also extremely important. That said, the team at Poggio did a fantastic job finding balance. Do make sure to give the 2018 a good amount of time, as I followed this for three days, through which it only got better and better.“

Decanter: „With vineyards stretching from 200 to 450 metres on different soils and in different locations, as well as an abundance of old Sangiovese biotypes, Poggio di Sotto exploits the complexity of its elements. Rose and red cherry, then smoke and liquorice tea tempt you to take a sip. The fruit flavours are sweet, but the palate is still firmly closed. Fleshy nectarine hangs on chalky, "al dente" tannins, and rejuvenating acidity soars and lingers with a citrus flavour on the finish. The balance of structure is effortless.“

James Suckling: „Sweet cherry and floral aromas with some orange peel and lilac character. Medium body with beautiful depth and concentration. Ripe, fine tannins and an attractive finish. Subtle richness and class. Give this wine three or four years to develop.“

Wine Spectator: „This elegant red wine shows a combination of strawberry, cherry, rose and wild herb flavours, a firm underlying structure and excellent harmony in a stylish profile. Just a little shy on the chalky finish.“
