Wine Advocate: „The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is characterised by a noble mineral precision that remains discreetly in the background, offering beautiful clarity on the nose and freshness on the palate. Within this framework, the wine reveals layers of cassis, red roses and grilled rosemary, offering impressive complexity in a full-bodied yet elegantly lean structure characterised by vibrancy and energy. The wine is made using the long-established method of fermentation and ageing in Slavonian oak and cement, a formula that preserves finesse and site expression.“

Falstaff Magazin: „Kraftvoll leuchtendes Rubin mit Granatschimmer. Sehr ansprechende und intensive Nase, vielschichtig, zeigt Noten nach reifen dunklen Kirschen und Zwetschgen ebenso wie Lakritze, Grafit und etwas Rosmarin. Begeisternd in Ansatz und Verlauf, zeigt präsente Frucht, baut sich in vielen Schichten auf, sehr gute Spannung.“

Vinous: „Skilfully focused and intense in the glass, the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino seduces the imagination with a depth of black cherry lifted by a minty herbal thrust, pine shavings and an earthy note of dusty soil. Its seamless, silky texture envelops the palate with polished, mineral red fruits, while nuances of clove add a pleasantly bitter note and rosy, floral hints lace the palate. Sweet tannins give the long and powerful finish an extraordinary framework, while a tart raspberry saturation lingers. The harmony within makes it hard not to drink rather than taste. Nevertheless, the 2021 is still painfully young.“

Jancis Robinson: „This is huge in every way, from the open, spicy, giving scents to the ferrous tannins and tongue-wagging acidity. It’s so wrapped up in its structure it’s hard to identify any fruit; it tastes more of earth, roses and thorns. Dark, firm and elegant; just needs 20 years.“

Vinous: „The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino captivates, opening slowly with an exotic array of sweet spices, cedar shavings, ashen stone, mint and hints of sage. It’s luxuriously soft in texture, silky and refined, with depths of balsamic-tinged cherries accelerated by vibrant acidity and a hint of sour citrus that adds contrast. This finishes with impressive structure for the vintage, still lively yet classically dry, leaving nuances of tart berries offset by a burst of inner sweetness that punctuates quite well. This was a very difficult vintage with a massive amount of rain in August that made vineyard work very difficult, but also extremely important. That said, the team at Poggio did a fantastic job finding balance. Do make sure to give the 2018 a good amount of time, as I followed this for three days, through which it only got better and better.“

James Suckling: „Perfumed, with aromas of dried flowers, red fruits, lavender and dried herbs that are expressive and enveloping. Medium-bodied, full of tension and precision, with focused, delineated fruit framed by nervy, fine-grained but firm tannins and lively, linear acidity. Combines transparency and structure. Crisp, incisive and beautifully defined, with exceptional length and detail.“
